Biodiversity highlights: Area conserved – 30ha.
The natural area consists of 30 hectares and although most of this area is not in pristine condition due to being ploughed for wheat fields, some 30 years ago, it still forms a very important natural corridor, linking the mountain with the valley below.

The new millennium was a milestone of life changing new beginnings for the owners of Blue Crane Vineyards, Henk and Anita Jordaan. They spend most of 2000 driving thousands of kilometres through the Cape Winelands to find this unique wine farm situated on the foothills of the Winterhoek Mountains. Henk has always been passionate about conservation of the natural environment and it was probably seeing the blue cranes nesting on this property during his initial visit that helped in making the final decision to buy this beautiful farm with its rustic atmosphere and unbelievable scenery.

The natural area consists of 30 hectares and although most of this area is not in pristine condition due to being ploughed for wheat fields, some 30 years ago, it still forms a very important natural corridor, linking the mountain with the valley below.

A few fragments of natural area (vegetation type is Breede Shale Renosterveld, with conservation status of Vulnerable) remained untouched and are still in a pristine condition. The stream that flow through the farm, have its riparian zones intact, with a wide variety of indigenous species growing in these areas.
The large farm dam surrounded by natural vegetation creates excellent habitat for aquatic life and attracts numerous water bird species to the area (e.g. Fish Eagle) A Natural wetland above the dam ensures only high quality water reach this dam.
