Biodiversity highlights: Area conserved – 75ha.
Diemersdal wine estate is situated in die shadows of the Drostberg in the Durbanville wine valley. The conservation area at Diemersdal consists of some pristine renosterveld, as well as some wetlands. The veld type is Swartland Shale Renosterveld, a critically endangered veldtype.

Making wine runs in the family and six generations of winemakers with one passion have made wines at the estate since the 1800’s.

The 75 hectares conservation area at Diemersdal consists of some pristine renosterveld (10 ha), as well as some wetlands (45 ha). Some 20 hectares, previously cultivated area has also been included and will be left for renosterveld to re-establish.

The veld type is Swartland Shale Renosterveld, a critically endangered veldtype. 90% of this veldtype has been transformed (mainly for cropland) and the remnants are founds in pockets, usually on steeper ground.

Various conservation activates are taking place:
Most of the farm has been cleared of alien vegetation and all cleared areas are followed up annually. Effective fire breaks exist and are maintained regularly.
Many bird species can still be seen on this farm and includes fish eagle, blue cranes and guinea fowl. Mammals occurring on Diemersdal include grysbok, steenbok, caracal, porcupine, otter and jackal.

The management of Diemersdal is committed to only using environmentally-friendly practices, whenever possible. They’ve minimized their spraying, and are in the process of implementing a plan to effectively deal with their cellar effluent.

Recycling is encouraged and all solid waste is removed from the farm by an accredited waste removal business.
