Biodiversity highlights: Area conserved – 2ha.
Groot Constantia Estate takes pride to being a self-sustainable agricultural unit in the heart of a city and form a valuable buffer zone for Table Mountain National Park. Although the area of natural habitat under our control is very small, we acknowledge the fact that the farms vineyards and river streams is a valuable habitat to different creatures that are living in the Table Mountain National Park.

The Groot Constantia Trust was called into life in 1993 to promote communal interest in the South African wine culture by funding the Groot Constantia Estate by the commercial production of products of the vine and other agricultural products in order to render the said Estate accessible to the people of South Africa and to tourism and preserve and manage it as a living museum for the cultural historical legacy of the Wine Industry and the people of the Republic of South Africa in consideration of the fact that this marks the origin of the South African Wine Industry, achieving a pinnacle of international recognition during the 19th Century.

The above describes our purpose which is quite clearly focused on preservation and although very focused on the cultural side, being in agriculture the preservation automatically spills over to preservation of nature. We take pride to being a self-sustainable agricultural unit in the heart of a City and form a valuable buffer zone for Table Mountain National Park. Although the area of natural habitat under our control is very small, we acknowledge the fact that the farms vineyards and river streams is a valuable habitat to different creatures that are living in the Table Mountain National Park. We will do our utmost not to disturb this habitat and will always allow it to play a role as an important buffer zone for the Table Mountain National Park. Links, porcupine and fish eagle sightings on the Estate, to name but a few, are proof to us that we are fulfilling this role with dignity.
