Biodiversity highlights: Area conserved – 200ha.
The inspiration for the name Eagle’s Cliff, comes from a pair of rare black eagles which nest in the cliffs overlooking the vineyards. The natural area that will be conserved by the Groenewald family is still in a pristine condition. Three vegetation types, Breede Shale Renosterveld, Breede Quartzite Fynbos as well as Robertson Karoo occurs here, of which the first type has been classified as having a vulnerable conservation status. |
Eagles Cliff is situated in the beautiful Breede River Valley, between Villiersdorp and Worcester.

Some of the hills on the property consist of glacial rock formations that were carved out of the strata by rivers of slow moving ice during the ice age 300 million years ago. Composed of a matrix of mud and ‘’Dropstones’’ it created a compact layer known as tillite. In the Worcester area the tillite stratum has undergone vertical movements and weathering, which created dramatic ‘tombstone’’ shapes.
Besides being a true conservationist at heart, Christiaan Groenewald (owner and winemaker) makes some excellent wines and founded the New Wines Company in 2000. Wines are bottled under the following labels, Eagles cliff Range and Dwyka Hills Range.
The Eagles Cliff restaurant menu offers a variety of tasteful dishes. You can also visit the farm and stay in their self catering cottage and get involved in outdoor activities such as Hiking, mountain biking, bird watching *or* swimming in one of the farm dams. |
