Biodiversity highlights: Area conserved – 4ha.
The Kirchners have purchased the farm Druk –my- Niet, situated against the Limietberg Mountains, in 2003 for its tranquillity and peaceful setting. Their aim is to make one of the best natural boutique wines in the country, but at the same time they are committed to the conservation of the unique fauna and flora of this farm. |
Only years later when they started the renovations of the Manor House were they made aware of the historic significance of the farm. A comprehensive cultural historical report was compiled by Mr. Dicey du Toit. Although many alterations were done to the house over the centuries, the Kirchners are trying very hard to bring it back to its old glory and all measures are taken to make sure that the historic significance is not jeopardized.
They have the same approach when it comes to farming and in 2006 they agreed to be apart of the ‘’Cape Winelands Biosphere Reserve’’
Abraham de Klerk, their winemaker as well as viticulturist, with the owners decided that they are going to produce organic wines in future and have already started to convert to organic farming practices.
In 2008 most of the farm has been cleared of alien vegetation. CapeNature has been advising them on the conservation status on the remaining natural areas and they’ve committed to only expand their vineyards onto areas as indicated by CapeNature as ‘’least threatened’’
